Digital Impressions In Yuma

You Deserve An Easy Dental Experience

Say goodbye to messy, uncomfortable impression trays. At Arizona Avenue Dentistry, we use advanced digital scanning technology to capture detailed 3D images of your teeth in just minutes. It's faster, more accurate and infinitely more comfortable than traditional impressions.

If you've ever gagged on impression putty or waited weeks for a crown that didn't quite fit right, you'll appreciate the difference digital impressions make. Our state-of-the-art scanner creates a precise digital model of your teeth without the mess, discomfort, or guesswork of old-fashioned molds.

What Are Digital Impressions?

Digital impressions use a specialized intraoral scanner to capture thousands of images of your teeth and gums. Within minutes, these images are combined into a highly detailed 3D model that your dentist can view, rotate and analyze on a computer screen.

The scanner looks like a small wand. Dr. Grady simply moves it around your mouth, capturing images as she goes. You'll see your teeth appear on the screen in real-time. The entire process takes just 3-5 minutes per arch.

This digital model becomes the blueprint for creating your restoration, whether that's a crown, veneer, bridge or orthodontic appliance. Because the scan is so precise, your final restoration fits better and requires fewer adjustments.

Why Digital Is Better Than Traditional Impressions

If you've experienced traditional dental impressions, you know they involve trays filled with thick putty that you have to bite down on for several minutes. Many patients find this uncomfortable or even triggering if they have a sensitive gag reflex.

Digital impressions eliminate all of that:

  • No gagging or discomfort from bulky trays
  • No waiting for putty to set while trying not to move
  • No bad taste from impression materials
  • No risk of the impression distorting or needing to be retaken
  • Better accuracy means better-fitting restorations
  • Faster turnaround time for your final restoration

Perfect For Patients With Dental Anxiety Or Special Needs

We've found that digital impressions are particularly helpful for patients who:

  • Have a strong gag reflex that makes traditional impressions difficult or impossible
  • Feel anxious about dental procedures and appreciate shorter, more predictable appointments
  • Have autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy or other conditions that make holding still challenging
  • Want to see and understand exactly what's happening during their treatment

The ability to watch the scan on screen can be calming and educational. Many patients find it fascinating to see their teeth from angles they've never seen before.

How Digital Impressions Work

The digital impression process is straightforward and comfortable:

Step 1: Preparation

We'll make sure your teeth are clean and dry. There's no numbing or drilling required - digital impressions are completely non-invasive.

Step 2: Scanning

Dr. Grady uses a small handheld scanner to capture images of your teeth. You'll see the 3D model build on screen in real-time. The whole process takes just a few minutes.

Step 3: Review and Send

We'll review the scan together on screen to make sure we captured everything perfectly. Then we instantly send the digital file to our lab or CEREC machine.

Treatments That Use Digital Impressions

We use digital impression technology for a wide range of restorative and cosmetic procedures:

CEREC Same-Day Crowns

Digital impressions are an essential part of our CEREC Same-Day Crown system. The digital scan feeds directly into our CEREC milling machine, which creates your custom crown right here in our office while you wait. No temporary crown, no second visit. You walk out with your permanent restoration in a single appointment.

Cosmetic Restorations

For veneers and other cosmetic restorations, accuracy is everything. Digital impressions capture every contour and detail of your teeth, giving the lab exactly what they need to create veneers that look natural and fit perfectly. You can even see a digital preview of your new smile before we begin.

Bridges And Implant Restorations

Creating a bridge or implant crown requires extremely precise measurements of the surrounding teeth and gum tissue. Digital impressions provide that level of accuracy, resulting in restorations that fit seamlessly and function like natural teeth.

Dentures And Partials

Even full or partial dentures can be created using digital impressions. The detailed scan captures the unique contours of your gums and remaining teeth, allowing the lab to create dentures that fit comfortably and stay in place better than those made from traditional impressions.

The Accuracy Advantage

Traditional impressions can distort as the putty sets or during shipping to the lab. Temperature changes, handling and even the properties of the impression material itself can introduce small errors. Those errors become problems when your crown or veneer doesn't fit quite right.

Digital impressions eliminate those variables. The scan captures your teeth exactly as they are, down to microns of detail. That digital file doesn't change during transmission or storage. The result? Restorations that fit better the first time, with fewer adjustments needed.

For you, this means:

  • Fewer appointments
  • Less time in the dental chair
  • Better comfort with your final restoration
  • Longer-lasting results
  • Lower chance of needing remakes or adjustments

Digital Impressions and CEREC Same-Day Crowns

At Arizona Avenue Dentistry, we've combined digital impression technology with our CEREC Same-Day Crown System. This powerful combination means you can get a custom crown designed, milled and placed in a single appointment.

Here's how it works: After taking your digital impression, Dr. Grady uses specialized software to design your crown on screen. You can see the design and even provide input on the shape and color. Once the design is finalized, it's sent wirelessly to our in-office milling machine, which carves your crown from a solid block of high-quality ceramic in about 15 minutes.

You walk in with a damaged tooth and walk out with a permanent, beautiful restoration, all in about 90 minutes.
