Intraoral Cameras: See What Your Dentist Sees

Understand Your Dental Health From A Whole New Perspective

Ever wonder what your dentist is actually seeing during your exam? Our intraoral cameras put you in the driver's seat by showing you high-resolution images of your teeth and gums on a chairside monitor.

At Arizona Avenue Dentistry, we believe informed patients make better decisions about their oral health. That's why we use intraoral camera technology to show you exactly what we're seeing, whether it's a small cavity forming, signs of gum disease or a cracked filling that needs attention.

When you can see the problem yourself, treatment recommendations make so much more sense. No more wondering if you really need that filling or crown. You'll see it with your own eyes.

What Is An Intraoral Camera?

An intraoral camera is a small, pen-sized device with a high-quality camera on the tip. Your dentist or hygienist gently guides it around your mouth to capture detailed images of individual teeth, gum tissue and hard-to-see areas like the back molars.

The images appear instantly on a monitor right next to your dental chair. You can watch the exam in real-time and ask questions as we go. The camera magnifies your teeth up to 25 times their actual size, revealing details that are impossible to see with the naked eye or even in a mirror.

How Intraoral Cameras Help You

Seeing is believing. When you can view images of your own teeth, dental care becomes a partnership rather than a mystery. Here's what intraoral cameras do for you:

  • Clear Understanding - See cracks, cavities, worn fillings and gum inflammation with your own eyes
  • Confident Decisions - Make informed choices about treatment when you understand what needs attention
  • Early Detection - Catch problems while they're small and easier to treat
  • Track Progress - Compare images over time to see how your oral health improves
  • Better Communication - Ask questions and discuss options while looking at the same images as your dentist
  • Insurance Documentation - Visual proof helps support treatment claims with your insurance company

What Can Intraoral Cameras Detect?

These powerful diagnostic tools reveal oral health issues that might otherwise go unnoticed until they become serious problems:

  • Cavities - Even small areas of decay in early stages
  • Cracked or Broken Teeth - Fractures that could lead to bigger problems
  • Worn or Failing Fillings - Restorations that need replacement
  • Gum Disease - Inflammation, recession or infection in gum tissue
  • Oral Cancer Screening - Unusual tissue changes that warrant attention
  • Tooth Wear - Grinding or erosion damage
  • Staining or Discoloration - Cosmetic concerns you may want to address

The Intraoral Camera Experience

If you've never had an exam with an intraoral camera, here's what to expect:

During Your Appointment:

  1. Your dentist or hygienist will gently move the small camera wand around your mouth
  2. Images appear instantly on the monitor next to your chair
  3. We'll walk you through what you're seeing, pointing out areas of concern or areas that look great
  4. You can ask questions at any time (in fact, we encourage it!)
  5. We'll save images to your patient record for future comparison

The camera itself is comfortable and completely painless. The tip is covered with a disposable sleeve for your safety, and the whole process adds just a few minutes to your regular exam.

Why Visual Evidence Matters

For many patients, dental treatment recommendations can feel abstract. "You need a crown on tooth #14" doesn't mean much if you can't see or feel the problem yourself.

Intraoral cameras change that dynamic completely. When Dr. Grady shows you a magnified image of a crack running through your tooth or decay forming under an old filling, the recommendation suddenly makes perfect sense. You're not taking our word for it because you're seeing the evidence yourself.

This visual approach has another benefit: it helps patients who have avoided dental care due to anxiety or past negative experiences. When you understand exactly what's happening in your mouth and why treatment is recommended, anxiety often decreases. You're an active participant in your care, not a passive recipient of mysterious procedures.

Patient Education

We take time to explain what you're seeing on screen. Whether it's showing you proper brushing technique or explaining why certain areas are prone to cavities, visual learning helps you take better care of your teeth at home.

Preventive Power

When you can see problems developing early, you're more likely to address them before they become painful or expensive. Many patients appreciate seeing their oral health improve over time through saved images from previous visits.

Intraoral Cameras and Modern Dentistry

Intraoral cameras are just one piece of our commitment to using advanced technology that improves your experience and outcomes. We combine intraoral imaging with other modern tools:

  • Digital X-Rays - Provide detailed views of tooth structure below the gum line with 90% less radiation than traditional film
  • Digital Impressions - Eliminate uncomfortable impression trays with fast, accurate digital scanning
  • CEREC Same-Day Crowns - Create custom crowns in a single appointment using computer-aided design

Together, these technologies create a dental experience that's faster, more comfortable and more transparent than ever before.
